For behold, the winter is past; the rain is over and gone. The flowers appear on the earth, the time of singing has come, and the voice of the turtledove is heard in our land. – Song of Solomon 2:11-12
Spring has sprung!
Spring officially sprung on Sunday! It is a time of new life – baby animals are born and fresh flowers pop up out of the bland winter ground.
The Easter story is all about new life. Jesus’ overcomes His death on the cross and gives us all hope of new life after death.
Perhaps it is a good time to refresh our faith – what should we do to spice up our worship or deepen our prayers? As it says in Isaiah 43:19: ‘Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it?‘
I did a big spring clean today, which involved a lot of sneezing followed by a lot of vacuuming. It feels good to sort out ready for Easter and Spring. It may be physical things like tidying which allow us to start afresh, or it may be mentally – sorting out those previous thoughts so that we may go on ready for a new chapter.
We can do this by focusing on Christ and praying for His help, for: ‘In the light of a king’s face there is life, and his favor is like the clouds that bring the spring rain.’ (Proverbs 16:15)
Let our prayer today be that we may also feel afresh in our faith and our relationship with Christ this Spring, appreciating the beauty of the new life around us. Let us feel in our hearts that Spring really has sprung, and be energised in the Holy Spirit (just as the lamb in the photo at the top of the page!).
Let us know; let us press on to know the Lord; his going out is sure as the dawn; he will come to us as the showers, as the spring rains that water the earth.” – Hosea 6:3
